- built on history, made for creation.
My studio is full of history and texture. A mix of upcycled modern pieces and timeworn finds that somehow all make sense together.
When I first came across this mid-century building in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood, I saw more than its great location among the coffee shops, dive bars, and boutiques. I saw solid bones, potential open space, and a chance to bring it back to life.
Built in 1954, the building started as a post office during Denver’s post-war boom, later becoming home to Union Local 577, a group of craftsmen, plasterers, and cement masons. When I bought it in 2020, the world was in lockdown and everything really did really feel like a ghost town. My parents and I rolled up our sleeves, stripped floors, salvaged what we could, and let discovery guide the process rather than design trends. As we uncovered the building’s character, I felt a growing need to preserve its story while creating something new.

The wood-paneled office turned into a prop and styling area. The old waiting room became a client lounge. We tore out the drop ceiling and uncovered a beautiful wooden barrel vault ceiling with steel truss. Even the adhesive patterns left on the floor after pulling up linoleum tiles were too good to cover. So we sealed them in.

“That hands-on process mirrors how I approach photography: intentional, curious, and deeply respectful of craftsmanship.”
That hands-on process mirrors how I approach photography: intentional, curious, and deeply respectful of craftsmanship. Every hinge got stripped back to brass, every original door was refinished and reused, and old plaster medallions became light sconces and a sink backsplash. I focused on repurposing instead of purchasing.

The name Ghost came naturally. As light filters through the large windows, shadows trace the floor. Revealing the outlines of old tile, vanished walls, and echoes of businesses before. A post office, a union hall, and now, a production space alive with new energy. Every shoot adds another layer to its story.

“Ghost Studio is more than a workspace to me. It’s a living collaboration between past and present.”
Curious to see what the studio once looked like? Before we began renovations, I directed a short film called The Window, shot inside the building to capture its quiet beauty and sense of history. The film ended up winning Best Cinematography at the 2021 LA Fashion Film Festival and was chosen as an official selection by festivals around the world.
Ghost studio is more than a workspace to me. It’s a living collaboration between past and present. If you’ve been here, you’ve probably felt it. That magnetic pull of a place with memory. And if you haven’t, come by. There’s always something new to discover here.
